Active Audio Number 9 September 2011

Everybody works for different motivations, but one thing unites us all: we like to achieve the goals we set. At Active Audio we make a point of releasing new products regularly that meet high standards of acoustic performance while being easy to install and set up.

As you've probably read in audio magazines, and in our previous newsletters, the new column loudspeaker Ray-On is born. We are very proud of this new baby, and the first feedback from our customers was beyond our expectations!

Indeed, the first manufactured batch was sold in 10 days only, when we thought we would have a few months. It will therefore take longer to satisfy the new orders coming in.

Moreover, audio professionals, through the AVAwards judges, made the right choice in selecting the Ray-On as a finalist in the category "Audio Product of the Year".

For those who haven't heard of the Ray-On revolution, this newsletter is for you.

Focus on...Ray-On 100
When Acoustics meets Architecture
Ray-On

The Ray-on 100 column loudspeaker is a 1m high column that can be mounted vertically, and so, very close to the wall. It achieves the tour de force of making with a passive loudspeaker what could only be obtained with a complex signal processing: combining vertical mounting and a homogeneous and constant SPL on twenty meters, to a strong directivity. This column loudspeaker offers a high quality alternative for airports, train stations, churches, conference rooms, shopping malls, amusement parks, etc.

The technical solution is based on the DGRC principle (Digital and Geometric Radiation Control), currently used in the StepArray DSP column loudspeakers, and patented by Active Audio.

Compared to other existing sytems, this innovation allows for discreet installations while having the performance in terms of intelligibility and sound quality worthy of much more complex systems. Ray-On falls between the passive columns that are to be mounted tilted and DSP columns loudspeakers.

The Ray-On 100 was designed for sound reinforcement of speech and music. A fast and easy set-up, without a PC, simply by wiring the column and its amplifier, makes installation simple, efficient, and sure. It is available in 2 versions, low impedance and 100V.

Do not hesitate to contact your Active Audio distributor to hear the Ray-On!

Active Audio News in brief...
Technical Data

Continuous power 150W 100 / 50 / 25 W
Max SPL at 8m 95 dBSPL 93 / 90 / 87 dBSPL
Nominal altitude (bottom of the column) 1.9m to 2.5m
Range (500Hz – 2kHz ± 5dB) 20m
Dimensions (H x W x D) 1014 x 128 x 117 mm
Weight 9kg 10kg
Colors Black RAL9005 or White RAL9016 (repaintable)

Ray-On 100 may be used without any equalization, but using one is advised. Equalization flattens the column’s frequency response and protects the loudspeakers by filtering low frequencies. The recommended equalization may be achieved using a 6 band parametric equalizer.

The sound radiation of the Ray-On 100 can be predicted directly using CATT-Acoustic or EASE softwares. DLL can be downloaded on our website.

An innovative hanging system
Ray-On mounting

The rigging system is an innovation in itself. It allows the column to stick very close to the wall, giving the impression that it is part of the structure.

Moreover, the installation is simple and requires no more than 5 steps:

  • 1. Mounting the support vertically on the wall
  • 2. Adjusting the brackets position on the column and lock them
  • 3. Cabling and closing the column
  • 4. Fixing the column on the support
  • 5. Adjusting the column rotation angle and lock it
A promising start
