StepArray

StepArray Products

The StepArray column loudspeakers have been designed to equip large reverberant spaces. Vertically mounted, these loudspeakers whose vertical directivity is digitally controlled, provide excellent reproduction and intelligibility of voice and music

A curved vertical loudspeaker array is the right solution to get a homogeneous SPL and a strong direct sound over the audience. With a digital signal processor (DSP), the array may be rectilinear, thus leading to the concept of DSP column loudspeaker. Considering the laws of acoustics, one can show that there is approximately a ratio 12 between the column height and the distance range of the column.StepArray columns implement the DGRC principle (Active Audio Patent), which is a synthesis of geometric and electronic arrays. They use a large number of high quality 3″ loudspeakers.

Simulation models

A simulation model of the sound coverage of the StepArray columns can be done with the acoustic simulation software CATT-Acoustic™ and their corresponding DLL.

Simulation with EASE

Simulation with CATT-Acoustic™

EASE - SPL radiated by SA250S in octave 1kHz

CATT-Acoustic™ - RASTI map in a basilica covered by 2 SA250P at 1kHz

Balloon plot of SPL radiated in octave 1kHz by column SA250S.
Result of a simulation with EASE equipped with the StepArray DLL.

RASTI map in a basilica of dimensions 43×18x12m and of RT 3,2s at 1kHz, covered by two columns SA250P (light blue).
Result of a simulation with CATT-Acoustic™ equipped with the StepArray DLL.

The StepArray DLL for CATT-Acoustic™ is included in the last version of
CATT-Acoustic

Example : With only one SA250P column, a perfect intelligibility is obtained in the whole nave of a cathedral (TR » 6s).
